Upcoming Concerts

On March 31, take a break from prank-planning to join us for an April Fool’s Eve concert filled with classical “hilariment”, which is a word we just created that combines “hilarity” and “merriment”. (COPYRIGHT!)

The performance will include PDQ Bach’s Sonata for Viola Four Hands and Harpsichord (yes, you read that right), Mozart’s A Musical Joke for Two Horns and String Quartet, and a special version of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf for Wind quintet and narrator…plus some other surprises, perhaps?

Take our word for it: Hilariment will ensue!!!

(RE)INTRODUCING SPECTRUM

Monday, September 16. 2024, at 7:30pm
All Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist
1959 Sandy Lane, Fort Worth, Texas 76122

Free Admission—Donations Accepted (Suggested amount: $20)

Think you know Spectrum? Maybe you do, maybe you don’t. Our opening concert is designed to showcase some Spectrum projects of which we are very proud, but may be flying under the radar.

We will begin and end the program with two of our community outreach ensembles, Quartet Chromatica (string quartet) and the Funkytown All-Stars (double bass quartet), both of which perform in various locations across North Texas.

In between those performances, we are excited to finally share the winner of our 2024 Spectrum Chamber Music Composition Award, Michael Grebla’s Piano Trio No. 1, In Search of Peace. As you may recall, we originally programmed this piece for last spring, but it had to be postponed due to injury. We are happy to say that we have been watching our cellist like a hawk to make sure he doesn’t get hurt again. Our special guest will be Australian composer, Michael Grebla, who is coming in from NYC to talk about his music before the performance!

As is the tradition at All Peoples, there will be a delicious post-concert reception where you can meet Michael and our concert artists.

A TRIBUTE TO DAVE HERMANN

FREEWILL DONATION (Suggested Amount: $20)

In the mid-1980s, a group of Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra string players got together to read chamber music just for fun. A performance at an anniversary party at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church (now known as All Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist) led to a chamber music series that would provide performance opportunities for many FWSO musicians and other professional musicians from North Texas and beyond.

One of those original musicians was FWSO violist Dave Hermann, who not only continued to perform with Spectrum but went on to run the organization almost single-handedly until his retirement in 2017. If it weren’t for Dave’s dedication, there would be no Spectrum today.

Dave passed away earlier this year at the age of 69.

As a tribute to Dave—and indeed, all the musicians who created Spectrum so many years ago—we are recreating the first official Spectrum series concert, featuring musicians who worked closely with him through Spectrum and the FWSO. It will be a celebration of Dave’s immense contribution to the performing arts in North Texas!
